A short answer is “Free and Open Source Software” is the only solution for our digital security and privacy.
What is Free and Open Source?
The question is self explanatory, however to understand better the meaning of “Free and Open Source”, we have collected some references from the Free Software community:
- Free software means software that respects users freedom and privacy, think free as in freedom, not price.
Open Source Software
- Open Source software give users the right to study the source code, make changes to improve the software, and distribute a copy.
The “Free and Open Source Software” protect your freedom and provide a software source code so anyone can see if there is any security issues etc.
Unfortunately no other software companies like Apple and Microsoft does that, in fact they encrypt their software source code that no one can see what’s inside, and they install their own spyware and malicious software to spy on users.
However only the Open Source Software is not enough to protect our privacy, like some open source software doesn’t respect users freedom, including most of the popular Linux operating systems like Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Fedora comes with some per-installed non-free firmware’s. So only the Free Software respect its users freedom.
